HIGH ART VS. STREET ART
While Beautiful Losers was certainly not the first type of documentary or movie to recognize the rising art-form that is graffiti art, it effectively shows that truly anything can be art if there is some sort of communication and expression. People see this kind of art as relatable because these artists are usually more amateur in nature, which, in my opinion, makes me a little more intrigued to see how that art speaks to me, since they are usually untrained and express themselves in such a unique way. While I am not attempting to take away anything from artists like Van Gogh, Picasso, Da Vinci, and Monet, our generation, as well as much of our parents’ generation, find it harder to associate intimate feelings with their works.
It all how you perceive art and how it speaks to you, that has widened to new heights. While the artists in Beautiful Losers may never create anything that matches the heights of fine art, broadening the scope of art to the population is never a bad thing. They have shown that anyone can be an artist and they have something to say.
